Janel Nail, B.Ed. is an Artist in Residence in Calgary Alberta. She teaches workshops throughout Calgary for kids, adults of all ages is currently working on her next LARGER THAN LIFE animal series.

Janel was born and raised in rural Alberta. She has enjoyed drawing, painting and making and creating from a very young age. As a young teen she sold her nature-inspired pencil drawings at local markets and shops. A few years later, Janel graduated from U of A with a Bachelor of Education specializing in art and special education. In addition, Janel has completed art education courses at Alberta Collage of Art and Design (ACAD). Throughout her 16 years as a classroom teacher in Canada and South Korea, Janel has had the opportunity to involve and engage students in their learning through art.

As a lifelong artist, Janel has explored a variety of art-making techniques from drawing, designing, painting, sculpting, printmaking, mural work and more! In 2016 after ‘retiring’ as a full time teacher to be home with her new born baby, she began her new life as an ARTrepreneur.

Along with art residencies in schools throughout Calgary, she currently teaches educators how to nurture their student’s creativity and provides children with the opportunity to explore, make, create and find their artistic groove in her summer art camps. Janel is able to bring her formal training and experience as an educator to her art classes, camps and workshops, supporting and encouraging participants to move forward in their art-making journeys.

Janel resides in Calgary, Alberta where she juggles her time as a mother of two, wife and an entrepreneur, spending her free time working on her next big creative project, singing, dancing in the kitchen and listening to her next crime podcast! Janel views learning as a lifelong goal and has recently started an Interior Design and Home Organization Company called YELLOWBOX KIDS where she designs spaces for family homes and care businesses.
